Moving across the world for university involves a lot of moving parts. Use this checklist to make sure your housing is sorted well before your flight to Singapore.

Four to Six Months Before Arrival

Decide on a realistic monthly budget in Singapore dollars, including rent, utilities, and daily transport. Register your arrival month and preferences on a priority list so you are matched with rooms before they are listed publicly. Discuss with your parents how they would like to verify the room, whether by video call or in-person visit later on.

One to Two Months Before Arrival

Review room options as they are shared with you, including photos, exact travel time to NUS, and what is included in the rent. Confirm the room with a clear move-in date that matches your flight and orientation schedule. Ask about the lease length and deposit terms in writing before you commit.

The Week You Arrive

Do a walkthrough of the room with your landlord or property manager and note any existing damage. Confirm wifi is working and ask how to reach your property manager for anything urgent. Save the transport route to NUS in your phone’s maps app before your first day of orientation.
